The Science of Facial Ultrasound

THE SCIENCE: WHAT IS ULTRASOUND?

Ultrasound is a vibration wave that travels at a frequency inaudible to the human ear, 3 MHZ. The wave is created when electrical energy is converted to mechanical energy [1]. In the case of Consonant Custom Cold Laser, our Ultrasound wand contains Piezoelectric Quartz Crystals that transform electrical current into a continuous acoustic pulse [2].

Through a process called Phonophoresis, this continuous pulse creates compression waves which force treatment products deep into the dermis [3]. This occurs when a compression wave causes a bubble at the surface of the skin to collapse, forming what is called an acoustic microjet.
